A new visitor centre at the world famous Vallée de Mai has been opened.
The centre was opened on December 19 by President James Michel, the patron of the Seychelles Islands Foundation.
Speaking at the event, President Michel said the centre at this World Heritage Site is a demonstration of the country’s commitment to environmental conservation.
“This site is our contribution to the world. It does not only benefit us as Seychellois but humanity at large,” said President Michel. “We are looking after it for the future generations of Seychellois.”
President Michel added that Seychelles is also conserving the fauna and flora at the site for foreign experts and other visitors to benefit from the well-preserved natural environment.
Also present at the ceremony was the island foundation chairman Maurice Loustau-Lalanne, who praised those who have contributed towards the preservation of the site, many of whom have won awards for their efforts.
Mr Loustau-Lalanne and President Michel unveiled plaques displaying the declarations of both the Vallée de Mai and Aldabra as World Heritage Sites.
