You are about to visit the islands of the Seychelles but how do you make sure you get the best out of your holiday? Here are some tips on how to get the best out of your holiday.
Aride Island Nature Reserve
This offers a taste of what the Seychelles was like before man arrived. Aride is one of the finest tropical nature reserves in the world and home to more breeding seabirds and seabird species than the other islands. Because Aride is fairly remote this is a full day trip.
Relax on the beach
‘There is no doubt that the best beaches in the world are in the Seychelles’, the words of ordinary beach connoisseurs. There are many beautiful beaches to choose from in the Seychelles, how about Anse Lazio on Praslin or Anse Source d’Argent on Las Digue? Then there is Anse Intendance on Mahe where the spectacular waves hurl themselves ashore. Or if you prefer tranquil then Anse a la Mouche is perfect. Wide, shallow and warm, excellent for the children to splash about in.
Hire a bike on La Digue
La Digue remains one of the few places in the world where pedal power is still the main form of transport. There are plenty of hire outlets around the jetty at La Passe. Explore the island and take a look at Chateau St. Cloud – a grand house once at the centre of a vanilla plantation. Carry on to L’Union Estate, an open air museum of plantation life and the gateway to Anse Source d’Argent.
Visit the World Heritage site of Vallee de Mai
The Vallee de Mai, in the heart of the small island of Praslin, is coco de mer forest preserved in almost its original state. The famous coco de mer seed, comes from a palm-tree once believed to grow in the depths of the sea and is the largest seed in the plant kingdom.
See the underwater world
Diving in the Seychelles is superb, the variety of fish life is superb as is the underwater scenery. If you have never dived then the Seychelles with its shallow waters and sheltered reefs is one of the best places to learn. For the more experienced there is the opporunity to dive with whale sharks or rays.
