Seychelles most environmentally friendly destination, says top travel magazine

The world’s top travel magazine – Condé Nast Traveller – has voted Seychelles as the Most Environmentally Friendly destination, in its annual readers’ travel awards.
Seychelles prides itself a lot on environment conservation and this nomination serves as recognition towards its efforts.
In the overall ranking for the World’s Top 100 destinations, Seychelles comes out 30th, way ahead of neighbour Mauritius in 42nd position. Maldives is rated sixth.
Sicily is the big winner this year for the Best Destination award, which propels it to the top of the World’s Top 100 destinations.
In the category of the best 20 islands, Seychelles comes out in a comfortable sixth place, one place ahead of Mauritius in seventh place. This category has been won by Sicily, followed in hot pursuit by the Maldives.
North Island, which is occasionally rated in the magazine, has also received a nomination which recognizes its efforts towards the environment. It finishes second behind Soneva Gili of the Maldives for environmental friendliness.
In the overall accommodation ratings for the Middle East, Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands, North Island clinches ninth position out of 20 top hotels.
