SHTA meets International Consultants
Two international consultants were in Seychelles recently for initial discussions as part of their research works. David McEwen in partnership with Oliver Bennett is conducting a value-chain analysis study of the Seychelles tourism industry. This project initiated by STB is being done in conjunction with the Commonwealth Secretariat. The aim is to assess the current situation and highlight possibilities for increase local participation in the industry and thus increasing benefits for local residents.
Various meetings were organized with stakeholders i.e. Ministry of Finance and Employment, CBS, SCCI to name some. SHTA also had the opportunity to meet with the consultants. A report on this research is expected to be released in August of this year.
On another note Dr Anne Spenceley research work is to identify the training needs of Seychelles for the implementation of the COAST (Collaborative Action for Sustainable Tourism) project. The project incorporates three main components – EMS (Environmental Management System) and certification, ecotourism and reef management.
