Diving the Granitic Isles of Gondwana with SUBIOS 2009
by STB

Organisers are busy putting the final touches to SUBIOS 2009, the international underwater festival organised in Seychelles every year.
For the 20th anniversary this year, the festival will not only celebrate the islands’ heritage but also one of the world’s rarest underwater sites depicted in the theme, Diving the Granitic Isles of Gondwana’.
The theme will again be looking to showcase Seychelles’ attractiveness as a dive destination on October 2nd and 3rd.
The granite formations of the islands which plummet deep into the ocean are a prized heritage in this part of the world and their structures offer remarkable underwater scenery which will be explored in SUBIOS 2009. The boulders also provide a habitat for corals and other marine creatures, all adding to the diving experience.
Marymonde Matatiken, senior marketing coordinator from the Seychelles Tourism Board who is handling the logistics, has said that “all is looking good and the ball is rolling”.
She explained that activities will concentrate over two days, whereby on the first day there will be the opening ceremony followed by presentation of prizes to the winners. The popular public voting of photos of videos is also on the programme for the evening which will end with a fashion show depicting the theme.
A host of activities have been planned for the following day at Beau Vallon whereby the public will be able to better appreciate the underwater world of Seychelles. There will be the popular SUBIOS Men and Women competition, treasure hunt, more presentation of prizes and the official launching of the competition for next year.
